EXCERPT:
You’re disappointed I didn’t sleep with you last night?” Ryker asked. “Not at all. I enjoy sleeping alone. I have more room.” “You lie, angel. I could feel your disappointment this morning. All you have to do is tell me you want me and I’ll stay. I have to hear it.” “You know I want you, Ryker. I’m sure you could figure that out the other night.” My whole life, I never needed anyone to protect me, not even my parents. And when it came down to it, they didn’t do a very good job when it came to Kade. I knew I could survive on my own. Admitting I needed or even wanted someone was foreign to me. Saying the words out loud was near impossible. “You showed me, but haven’t told me. Words can be powerful,” he replied. Rolling my eyes, I got out of bed and threw on some clothes before going downstairs. He was in the kitchen with his back to me, shirt off, wearing only a pair of boxers. Holy fuck. “So if I take off my clothes and lay down on the table, you wouldn’t have sex with me?” He chuckled. “Nope.” “You sure?” “Yep.” He continued on with cooking while I stood there, dumbfounded. I didn’t believe him for a second. His back stiffened when I took off my shirt and pants and climbed up on the table. “I am so hungry,” I announced, waiting for him to turn around. When he did, he completely ignored me and sat down with his plate of food. He pointed to the counter. “Your plate’s up there.” “You’re seriously not going to look at me?” He studied an invisible spot on the table and placed a piece of bacon in his mouth, crunching it slowly. “You’re not ready for that.” I waited for him to sneak a peek but he didn’t. “Who’s the stubborn one now?” He chuckled. “Still you, sweetheart. You have me beat.”

I remember being only seven years old when Isaw my parents torture and kill a man. The scene gaveme nightmares for years to come. I tried to push thethoughts out of my mind, but my mother always mademe embrace it. Never did I know they were assassins, hired hit men. I remember the first time my mothermade me hold a knife to someone’s throat and slice it inhalf. Yeah, that was my good ole mom for you. “Trinity, come, darlin',” my mother says holdinga butcher knife in her hand. I didn’t want to go to herbecause the last time I did, she made me cut off a man’sfinger. It was all bloody and gross. She told me the bestwas yet to come. Little did I know at the time it wouldbe just a few short weeks.“Please don’t make me do this again, Mommy,” Isay.“Trinity, this is something you will grow to love, Ipromise you. Now come here.” I walk over to her andshe stands behind me. We stand behind the blondehaired woman tied to a chair in our basement. This iswhere they did most of their torturing for information. My dad had built the room himself, making it soundproof so the neighbors wouldn’t hear the screams myparents inflicted on their victims.“Take the knife, baby, and slit her throat. Slice itnice and evenly where we don’t have a lot of bloodsplatter. Remember how we practiced on the chicken.”She held the knife with me and the woman began tokick and scream. I felt a small high. Is this normal, should I be enjoying this?“See, steady.” We begin to slice and the bloodspatter was minimal as she said. The blonde woman’shead tilts forward. I walk around to see her cold lifelessbody slumped down in the chair and I smile.“That wasn’t so bad, Mommy,” I say, holding theknife with blood dripping from my hands.“I told you it wouldn’t be, darling. Now let’s goget ready for dinner. Your father will be home soon.” My mother smiled at me like this was completelynormal; normal to have your seven year old daughterslicing someone’s throat. My father came home thatnight and we continued on like we hadn’t created an actof sin in the basement. Again my heart raced at thethoughts of maybe killing again. That is when I knewmy life was going to be completely screwed. The following day was the day I met my best friend inthe whole wide world, Teagan. I was standing outsidewaiting for my dad to get home. It was the best part ofthe day because my father was my best friend, my onlyfriend. School was a freaking nightmare for me. All thekids made fun of me due to the fact I had a stutteringproblem. Kids came be so vile, and so when Teaganshowed up on my porch that day, I was delighted tofinally have a companion. She stuck up for me atschool, and on occasion, kicked bitches asses. She wasmy constant, the one I counted on to keep me safe, theone person, no matter what, would be there for me.

MY REVIEW
Sienna has just buried her husband Rob.  He's a Marine, but she didn't lose him to enemy fire.  She lost him because he was drunk driving and lost control of the car.

Her husband wasn't a nice man.  He drank mostly, and cheated on her numerous times.  Her one salvation was Nick, Rob's best friend.  He's also a Marine, but he treats Sienna the way she deserves to be treated.  He knows how horrible she's been treated, but has maintained his distance from her.  When Rob passes away, he is now free to show his feelings for Sienna that he couldn't before.

Sienna has sworn against being with another solider.  She knows that Nick would never hurt her, but because of Rob, she doesn't want to get involved.  She isn't used to someone being kind to her, and looking out for her.  She's attracted to Nick, but is afraid of the feelings she has.  She doesn't want to lose him.

When she finds out some horrible things that Rob was involved in, she finds herself involved with some very shady people.  People that could end her life very easily.  Nick is terrified about what could happen, and is shocked to see how far his friend had fallen.  He got himself involved with someone who hid very well in plain sight.

I really loved this book!  I understood why Sienna would be gunshy about getting involved with Nick, but she doesn't realize how determined he is to change her mind.  He's loved her for so long, and is frustrated that she won't give them a chance.  He makes it known that he's not going to give up on them being together.  He wants to take care of her; the way Rob never did.

  TOUR-EXCERPT

The little skip, skip of my heart is slightly sickening. How can I go from scared to… to so needy in less than ten seconds? The sight of Nick on my bed seems to short circuit my brain. I’m pretty sure I can feel explosions going on behind my eyes. Memories of being pressed against him, of him inside me, combust in my mind.
]
One arm comes around my waist and draws me close in understanding. I wish he couldn't read me so well sometimes. The fear of earlier has been replaced with something much more urgent and frightening. His thumb rubs roughly across my cheek as he coaxes my face up and away from his chest. His eyes are sincere and guilt jabs me for even imagining he might hurt me. My chest tightens as his callused thumb continues to smooth across my face. I want it. I can’t help it. I need him to kiss me. My lips tingle in anticipation and I hold my breath.

I don’t know if it’s adrenaline that numbs my common sense when it comes to Nick or what, but the pain in my neck has all but gone. The hammering of my heart is replaced with a steady throb of desire. His gaze drops to my lips and I wait for him to close the distance between us but I suspect he’s waiting for my permission.

I tighten my grip on the back of his neck, almost fearful he might pull away, and I bring my lips to his. We hover there, exchange breaths and heat for a moment, and when we finally connect it’s slow and acute. I’m aware of every tiny touch of his lips on mine. Before I can deepen it, he pulls back and drops his hand to my wine-soaked top. His smile tilts.

“We need to get you out of that top.”

Excerpt:
He had six-pack abs, and I wanted to feel the carbonation. This one dressed like the stereotype of a construction worker, down to the handkerchief he used to wipe sweat off his forehead. I don't know if he or the hot day brought it out, but sweat poured off of me too. He had no interest in me as a person, though. I was invading his territory. Still, I enjoyed the view. For my part, I knew my clothes looked crappy. I didn’t have to wear uniforms anymore, but my street clothes, well they were very—street. So there I stood, a turd in the sun in front of this Adonis. Oh well.
He pointed to a small trailer up a muddy hill. The supervisor I asked to see apparently stayed in there. Stayed, as in never left. Great. Mud. Now I'd be a dried turd in the sun. Adonis went back to digging and I started the trek up the hill. At least I came with boots. Steel toed.
Once I made it to the trailer, I heard an argument going on inside.
"Look, I don't care who you are. The plans are publically filed. Go get them yourself!" yelled someone.
Then I heard a voice I knew. Calm, cool, subversive. "Is there any reason you're being so difficult? A man did die on your watch."
An encounter I hadn’t planned on. Well, at least not until later tonight. I knocked loudly on the door and with my sweetest voice said, "Hello, boys. Am I interrupting something?"
"Great," groused the supervisor. "A party." He appeared to me like another stereotype, puffing on a cigar over a fat jowl line and rotund stomach that threatened to overturn the small desk he was behind. I guess there's a reason for stereotypes. He looked about four hamburgers away from a heart attack.
On a wooden chair in front of the supervisor sat Jack. A fellow independent detective, an ally at times, a competitor...and my on and off lover.
"Well, well, well," he said smiling, but I could tell he wasn’t happy to see me. Not here. It meant we were both working the same case. "Hello, Carolyn. Who hired you?"
"Parents."
"Girlfriend," he answered back.
We stared at each other. Complications.
The supervisor didn’t give a damn and said to me, "Well, missy, I'll tell you the same thing I told this guy." He jerked his thumb around to Jack. "The plans are publically filed and that’s all I have to say about it."
I tried a different tactic. "That’s fine with me. I have no problem going downtown for a copy." I wore my practiced, saccharine smile. "But I wonder, could you tell me the name of the architect? Please?" I smiled again. God, this job sucks at times.
The supervisor sighed. "Jones, Evan Jones."
"Thank you so much," I said, smiling my best smile again. "I'll get out of the way and leave you two boys to...whatever you were doing."
I opened the door to go and started to shut it only to find Jack following me out.
"Sure, flash your tits and get what you want." Boy was he in a bad mood.
"There was no tit flashing in there. Face it, testosterone was not a good choice in that situation."
Jack's response: a grunt.
"Besides," I tried to placate him, "I didn’t get the plans either."
"No, you did one better."
"That's assuming the architect will have anything to do with me and cooperate." A thought occurred to me. "So are you going there too?"
"No, I might as well wait and see what you turn up. Besides, I have my own leads."
"Are you planning to share?" Just call me hopeful. As in full of shit, because that’s where hope always seemed to lead.
"No," he said, still grumpy.
"I see. So it's gonna be like that."
"I guess so."
I felt like such a female. Damn. But I had to ask.
"Are we still on for tonight?"
"Yeah."
I wasn’t convinced but didn’t push it. God, sometimes I hated myself. But we were good together—when it was good—when his competitive edge didn’t get the better of him. Though I was one to talk. I did the same thing at times. Hence our on and off status. But currently we were supposed to be on. So, I kept it light in the spirit of things to come.
"Okay, master detective, I'll leave you to your leads. See ya."
"See ya," he replied, already preoccupied, pondering a piece of paper he'd taken from his pocket.
I made my way down the hill in my muddy boots.

“I want to touch you. Take off your clothes.”
Brad tsked and shook his head sternly. “That’s not my will right now.”
Her gaze lowered to where he opened his pants and pushed the edges aside. He delved in and drew out the throbbing length of his cock. She swallowed hard, her hips tilting instinctively, the muscles of her channel fluttering with greedy anticipation. His cock was beautiful. Visibly pulsing. Long and thick with a network of engorged veins climbing up the straining length. The mushroom head was overly fat and shiny, weeping streaks of pre-come. She couldn’t see his testicles hidden in the folds of his pants, but she imagined they were drawn just as tense as his shaft. A shock of black curls escaped the fabric, peeking around the wide girth. She stared, thinking she’d never get used to the raw power of his beautiful body or the clutching need he evoked in her.
Brad’s gaze fixed on her face, hot and sultry and unreadable. His eyes were hooded, displaying a tiny crescent of color. Chloe felt locked in a haze of lust, a palpable thing that infiltrated her mind and clawed at her body for a physical connection to this man. She still couldn’t figure out what he wanted from her, why he’d tied her. It was patently obvious that she wanted him desperately at the moment, that she wasn’t going anywhere.
His gaze broke away from her face and made a leisurely stroll down her body, stopping to linger between her legs.  He used his palms on her knees to push back and roll up her hips, exposing her to his avid gaze. With a deep belly moan, he lowered his head and beat his tongue back and forth over her nub, deliriously lashing it to a tight bud. Chloe arched and called out, a vocal quiver that gave voice to the pleasure stabbing through her body.
Oh, God! God! That’s sooo good! Please!
Brad’s head shot up and he met her gaze. She had trouble focusing on his face, but could see a tiny grin split his lips and a dimple dig into his cheek.
“Just Brad will do, thanks. And save the amens for later.”
She bit her lip, trying to process his facetious comment, but just then, all thought spun away as he gripped his cock and dragged the bulging head slowly through her slick folds. He drew tight circles and scribbled his way along her sensitive flesh, torturing nerve endings to a screaming frenzy. Chloe jerked her hips, desperate for him to fill her. Whimpers and moans gurgled from her throat, but his hand kept urgently working his hot shaft against her, sliding and bumping, and making her mad with desperate lust.
“What do you want, Chloe?” His rough voice broke through her haze. She saw tight strain on his face while dark desire soaked his eyes, and she was glad she wasn’t the only one gripped with this brutal need.
“Please....”
Brad groaned, a feral rumbling, and she felt him nudge her opening, stretching her flesh with a delicious slide that pulsed bliss through her channel. His bloated tip slid in, and he pumped a few shallow beats, then withdrew with a snarling moan.
“Fuck! That’s good!” He breathed harshly.
Chloe’s hips writhed off the bed. She closed her eyes and struggled for a breath, suffering the acute loss of his abandonment.
Oh, God. This. Man. Was. Killing. Her.
Her nipples were hard and tingling, her skin overly sensitive, and a deep burn fired her sex. She was dripping wet and shaking with her need for him.
“Like that, Chlo? Is that what you want?”
She nodded, unable to form words. More. She wanted much, much more.
“I see…” He held his shaft in his hand, slowly stroking from tip to base. Holding it out so she could peruse its magnificence. His cock was enormously distended, the wide head coated with their fluids. The carnal sight had her tugging hard on her bond. She craved him so desperately it physically hurt. “Hmmm…so you want my cock, is that it? You want me fucking you deep, am I right?” His gaze met hers and she was mesmerized with his intensity; his blue eyes were bottomless wells and she wanted to dive into the limpid dark pools. “You need me. Say it.”
Chloe blinked. What?
“Say it.”
“Fu—fuck me, Brad.”
“No! Say you need me. Say it, dammit!”
“I—I ne—need you.”
She stared, her body thrumming wildly, her brain scrambling her thoughts in a shuffle. What is this about? She tested the restraint.
“You won’t run…”
 “I won’t run.”
“You need me.”
Didn’t I say that already? Can’t we just get on with it?
“I need you.” She swallowed, tasting the truth of her words. She thought she saw emotion cloud his eyes, bleeding through the blue.
“I need you to surrender, Chloe.”
