BOOK DESCRIPTION
Sophie has enough problems in her life without Spencer turning her blood to fire, without his eyes freezing and burning her, without his hatred of her. Since his migration into the house next to hers, Sophia Valdez isn’t sure whether she wants to toss him under a bus or kiss that smirking mouth of his. But even as the temperature rises around them, leaping flames of passion, want and desire, everything either has ever known will be shattered by the lurking shadow hounding their every step, wanting revenge.

Spencer Rowth moves to the sleepy town of River Port with his mother and twelve year old sister, Suzy, to escape a deceitful father, an unfaithful girlfriend and a life crumbling much too fast for him to grapple onto only to be smacked upside the head by the last thing he wanted again. Sophie was everything he refused to want. Her temper, her wit, her laugh, her smile, the way her entire body goes up in flames under his hands are things he would rather slam a lid on and forget. Instead, he finds himself falling for the smart-mouth next door. But how long will he have before the evil chasing them catches up? How long before the very thing he never wanted becomes his only thread to sanity? And who is after them? What do they want and why do they want Spencer and Sophie dead?

THE EXCERPT:
“I won’t bite,” he said, probably meaning it as a joke.
“Oh if only that were my only problem,” she sighed under her breath.
“What?”
She shook her head. “Nothing.”
She took his hand, slipping her icy fingers through his. The electric sparks tore a fiery path down the length of her arms, nearly melting the ice beneath their feet. She shivered involuntarily and felt his fingers flex.
“All right?” Had his voice always been so husky?
She dampened her lips. “Yeah…” The single word died in her throat as she was pulled towards him. Her heart tripped. Her lungs stilled. The heat of his body rushed over her with the subtle scent peppermint, leather, spices and smoke.
A soft mist blew around them. Raindrops glistened in his hair, shimmering under the pale glow of the light post. His eyes were shadowed beneath wispy fringes, but the silver in them glinted like pools of liquid mercury. Her breath caught. It must have made a sound because his fingers tightened. His shaky exhale caressed her flushed face.
“This,” he whispered so quietly she almost didn’t hear him. “Is why you are so bad for me.”

Review for Bird of Prey by Danielle-Claude Ngontang Mba

Title –   Bird Of Prey
Series – Sémya Slotin Mystery #1
Author – Danielle-Claude Ngontang Mba
Genre – Mystery Romance
Publication Date – November 25th 2013
Publisher – Ever After Edition
Cover Artist – Danielle-Claude Ngontang Mba

Book Blurb/Synopsis
This was supposed to be an easy case…
Sémya Slotin had spent the last three years living in London with her best friend Polliannah Koch staying away from solving cases. After Hawaii, she was taking a break from puzzles, cases and mysteries that could potentially get her killed.  Instead, she had been doing her second and third favorite things, drinking and selling expensive vintage wines and having earthshattering sex with the mysterious, sexy, beautiful but ever so secretive Josh Heinz. Life in London was good….until her funds ran out. Too much wine drinking, not enough wine selling!
When fashion designer and adoptive mother, Annika Slotin, summoned her back to Paris to hire her for what Sémya considered being the easiest case of her amateur sleuth career, all she could think of and seeing was money signs and a well-deserved Cuban holiday once it was solved.
What Sémya didn’t see was her stumbling on the fresh corpse of supermodel Johanna Cartier. She didn’t think that male model turned fashion designer Julian Marais-Caldwin, who also happened to be Sémya’s ex, would be suspected of brutally murdering her. Johanna was his girlfriend, his muse and he loved her. Sémya didn’t see the dead bodies piling up or the conspiracy theories.
Sémya was a little rusty. But then again, it was supposed to be an easy case and she was going to solve it.  One vintage wine at a time… Sémya Slotin was officially back in business!

THE REVIEW:

This book captivated me from the very beginning!!

Semya Slotin lives with her best friend Pollianna Koch in London, and when she gets a call from her mother about a case, she reluctantly goes.  She and her mother are at odds, but she needs the money, and she refuses to take it from Josh Heinz, her friend with benefits.

Her mother is a fashion designer, and former mode Annika Slotin.  Someone is stealing her sketches and sending them to her ex Julian Marias-Caldwin.  Annika hires Semya, who is an amatuer slueth with a criminology degree, to find out who is responsible. Since Semya has a pretty good idea who is doing it, she believes the case is going to be easy money for her and her roommate.  Then she can get back to drinking and running her high priced wine business.

Little does she know, this is not as easy as she thought it to be.  At the same time, she's trying to figure out with Josh is keeping from her.  She's been with him for three years, and knows almost nothing about it.  Whenever she asks him, he always changes the subject to something else.

When Semya is faced with the murder case of supermodel Joanna Cartier, she discovers some interesting things about the model herself.  Honestly, this book had me guessing right to the end.  I guessed who the killer was, but was totally wrong on how she was related to Joanna.  Honestly, I think Semya would be a great profiler or cop!!  She has the mind of a cop, but she loves her freestyle life of living with very little responsibility.

Also, I'm curious about Josh.  He is hiding something from her, and I am really wanting to know more about him!  He has resources normal men don't have, and is able to get information easier then most. It drives her crazy that he keeps who he really is from her, but he makes it clear that it is necessary.  It also helps that he's gorgeous and smexy.  Plus, he loves Semya more then anything, and would do pretty much anything for her.  Even if that means seeing her help out her ex.

I really loved this book!!  It had me guessing right up until the end.  I can't wait to read the next case Semya is going to solve!!!

EXCERPT
Polliannah knew that Sémya would go all Nancy Drew on her tonight. After playing nice with a few guests from the fashion house, she discreetly slipped to the hallway and gestured her to come with her. “I just need to see what’s going on over there?” she whispered as she was removing her shoes.
“Is this not a felony?” she asked Sémya. And she wasn’t going to remove her shoes! Sémya frowned back. How could it be a felony, they are not breaking and entering. They are already inside the house. Every step she was taking was making a sound. “Sorry,” she whispered when Sémya hushed her for the fourth time.
“This house is a maze,” she said opening the third room. It was yet another bedroom, another empty bedroom. She looked around, and apart from the furniture, the place was empty. </ blockquote>
“What are you searching for?” She whispered.
“Something…anything. I’ll know when I see it,” Sémya muttered back. “Hide here,”</ em> she said when they heard footsteps. She left the door slightly opened so they could see. Johanna was at the edge of the corridor with the gorgeous man they saw at the beginning of the party.</ blockquote>
“She’s cheating on Julian?”

“Hush Polli, I want to hear what they’re saying,” she told her.
“Because you have dog hearing?” Polliannah said. The man smoothly passed his hand around Johanna’s waist but she removed it. “Okay maybe he’s just a grabby guest?”
“No, he’s completely invading her personal space. She’s just being careful,” Sémya said. “Peter! Not here, not now.” Johanna said before moving away.
Peter stayed behind and looked their way. They both held our breath until he walked away. “And now I found it,” she smiled. They quickly sneaked back to the party.
“So are you going to tell Julian?” Polliannah asked her.
“Tell him what? That she was talking to some bloke?” She said as she put her shoes back on. “This is Eileen Clarke,” Sémya told Polliannah when the bubbly blond woman joined them. “You’re late but you look lovely tonight.”
“Nice to finally put a face to the name, Polliannah I presume.” Eileen blushed and turned her attention the younger woman who was next to her. “And this is Emma Blum, Johanna’s assistant. She organized this entire shindig for Miss Cartier. I just got here but everything looks great!”</ em>
Emma looked a little shaken. “Are you alright Emma?” Sémya said.
She looked away for a bit but smiled. “I’m fine. Who’s up for a tour?"
Polliannah looked at Sémya, they just had their own private tour. Eileen looked very excited about the idea. They all nodded back. “Shall we?” Emma said.
