Cover Reveal for The Art of Persuasion by Heather C. Myers!!

Title: The Art of Persuasion
Author: Heather C. Myers
Genre: NA Romantic Comedy/Time Travel
Expected Release Date: January 26th, 2016
Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR

Blurb: Isla Barnes hates love, marriage, and commitment.  As a Millennial in her twenties, she's focused on starting her medical communications carrier, moving out of her parents' place and into a ridiculously expensive studio apartment in a semi-safe neighborhood.  After a bachelorette party with her closest friends, she wakes up in nothing but her party dress to an unfamiliar bedroom next to a man claiming to be a pirate from the Eighteenth Century.  While she attempts to figure out where she is and why she's here with him, her new companion, Captain Matt Scott of the Crimson Wave, is on a mission to rescue his sister from the hangman's noose.  Isla decides to tag along because he offers her free passage and she finds she feels safe with him - which is odd, considering the only man she trusts is her father.  This new adventure is completely unexpected, mind-blowing, and seemingly impossible, but Isla will learn that survival is easier with friends, magic is real, and love is beautiful.

Full disclosure: I am an acquired taste. I'm a typical blonde Orange County suburbanite who says 'like' more than necessary, laughs loud and probably obnoxiously, and loves to dance in the rain. I'm a 26 year old college graduate with more than a few tricks up my sleeve, and I also happen to be a pretty big Ducks fan. Oh, and I'm a writer. Like, for real. I recently signed with Anchor Group Publishing, which will see two of my series being published this year. I've self-published over 15 books, with more on the way, so I'm familiar with both a hybrid-traditional publishing method as well as self-publishing. I don't speak in third person (normally) nor do I wear glasses (except when I'm feeling particularly mischievous). I'm lucky to have found my soul mate at the ripe old age of 22, even though he frustrates me on purpose to get a reaction out of me. We live near Disneyland, have two rambunctious female puppies, and have a beautiful baby girl. He has two amazing boys, and has gotten me hooked on Smallville, watching soccer (okay, okay FOOTBALL - FC Barcelona, baby!), and Cancun Juice.

EXCERPT

Max scooted back on the couch, he reached toward Bailey, eyes straying to her legs. Even though she wore jeans, he still pictured her legs bare, like they were when she jumped on his counter. Her eyes widened as his hand came closer and closer. Max leaned forward, stretching his arm even closer to her body, he ached to touch her. His fingertips itched for a chance to slide down her body. As he moved closer, he heard her inhale deeply and he couldn’t escape the erotic images that flowed through his mind. Oh, the sounds I could cause her to make, if she would give me the chance.
Max continued edging forward, until his fingers wrapped around what he was reaching for. He picked the remote control up and moved back to his side of the couch. His hand shook slightly. Bailey exhaled. The sound sent chills over his body. Max pointed the remote at the television and pressed play.
He cleared his throat. “Do you want to start from the beginning or do you want me to find the last scene you watched?”
Max waited on her to answer but all he heard was the sound of her breathing. He kept his eyes straight forward, fearing the sight of her chest rising and falling would be his downfall. She took so long to answer that he forgot what his question was.
“Whatever you want,” she whispered, and his gut clenched. Max pressed pause.
What was his question? For the life of him, he couldn’t remember what he’d asked her. But her answer ‘whatever you want’ was the answer he craved. A thousand questions raced through his head, ‘Bailey, what do you want me to do to you with my tongue?’ Her answer of ‘whatever you want’ would be perfect for that question. ‘Bailey, what do you want me to do to you with my hands?’ Whatever you want would be the perfect answer to that question. But none of those were the question she was answering. What had he asked her?
“Or we could just watch television,” she said. “We don’t have to watch the movie, I know it’s a chick flick and you may not like it.”
Oh yeah, the movie. “No, no, we can watch the movie.” Get it together, Max.

THE REVIEW
I really enjoyed this book!  First... for the accents that went in my head every time  one the guys talked... love Australian accents....

Holly Adams really does not like her new boss.  When she first meets Brad Winchester, he's an hour late to the meeting and it is beyond obvious he doesn't know anything about the business at hand.  He's taking over for his father, and it's up to her to help him navigate his was through.

Brad, is fascinated by Holly when he first meets her.  He knows she doesn't like him, and he's determined to change her mind.  Also, he's not happy about taking over for his father.  He's been forced to leave his home in London, and a job that he loved.  He was established there; had friends there, and his father uproots his life and brings him back home.  He just doesn't want people knowing why.

Soon, Brad and Holly realize they have a mutual friend.  Holly can't believe it when she goes to her farm for the weekend and sees Brad at her friend Mark's house.  She decides to make the most of it, and soon realizes there is more to Brad then what she thought.  He's actually a really nice guy, and she likes him.  Problem is, they can't be together because of work.  Plus, Holly's life is crazy, and the last thing she has time for is a boyfriend.

I loved the interaction between Brad and Holly at times.  They totally misunderstood each other, but their attraction continues to grow.  Despite Holly fighting it, Brad makes it impossible for her.

THE EXCERPT

Bradley Winchester dove into his red convertible BMW and discreetly followed Holly home. She was fascinating. Mesmerizing even. He’d never seen anything as erotic as that woman bent over the car hood fixing her engine and snapping her knife shut against her thigh. It was primal and capable and so completely foreign to him. He was used to women who needed help to open their champagne let alone fix their cars.
He knew from the minute he walked into the EPR boardroom today that Holly Adams did not like him. He was an hour late, but that had been a genuine mix-up. His secretary had given him the wrong time. He was normally fastidious about punctuality. However, he knew it was more than that.

Holly Adams had him pegged as a guy punching above his weight, so to speak. She saw him as a guy who was handed a job on a silver platter that he wasn’t qualified for. She was right to an extent, but she didn’t know the full story and he couldn’t tell her, even if he wanted to. Not that it had been any of her goddamned business in the first place. He had tried to smooth things over with her at the time and she had been nothing but courteous but her distrust of him was obvious.

Holly did a left-hand turn into a driveway. It was the driveway of St Anne’s School for Day Students and Boarders. Why was Holly going into an exclusive girls’ school at seven at night? He turned into the driveway and shut his lights. She had gone right so he turned left and pulled his car into a park behind a bank of trees. He got out of the car and watched Holly. She parked. She went around to the passenger side and hauled out her briefcase. He watched her head towards a doorway and it swung open…light spilled through the doorway and an imperious woman filled its frame.

“Cutting it fine aren’t you Miss Adams?”

“Nothing to worry about Sister Evangeline, I’m here now.”

The door slammed and the yard was dark. Brad looked along the bank of buildings. Brad had dated a few St Anne’s girls back when he was in high school but he’d never been to the school before and never at night.
Upstairs he could see school girls talking on a veranda. He saw Holly approach. She was backlit and her golden hair looked like a halo.

“Holly! You’re here!” One girl trilled. “I have so much to tell you!”

“OK Maddy, you will have to wait and tell me after study hall. Come on girls everyone inside. You all know the drill.”

Holly Adams worked at the school. How fascinating, Brad thought. He had so many questions.
He saw the downstairs door open again and the large woman peer out.

“Who are you? We don’t need any Peeping Tom’s around here. You’ve got two minutes to skedaddle or I’m letting the dogs out.”

Oh heck, thought Brad, and he climbed in his car and burnt rubber getting the hell away from St Anne’s.

EXCERPT:
I enter and apologize for being late. Both Melinda and Sabrina greet me with big smiles on their faces. Ali asks me if I want coffee, pointing to the stainless steel carafe on the table. I wish she would offer me a shot of vodka. Or two. The door opens, and the guy walks in.
“What did I miss?” One corner of his mouth lifts in a crooked smile, and his eyes find mine.
Gulp.
“Natalie, this is Colin Hampton, our boss,” Sabrina announces, gesturing to him. “Colin, meet Natalie Davenport, Allison’s business partner.”
He walks around the table, slowly like a predator stalking his prey. His mischievous eyes never leave mine, and he stretches his hand out to me. “Pleasure to meet you, Ms. Davenport.” His tone is low and polite, and his handshake firm but gentle. That paired with the humorous glint in his eyes and the little secretive smile makes me want to run out of the room, screaming. Declaring that I’m embarrassed is an understatement of massive proportion.
“Likewise,” I manage to choke out.
He holds my hand a second too long, and I jerk it back. I pour myself a glass of water and gingerly lower my butt onto a chair. Colin sits across from me, smiling slightly. Ali and the radio station girls are chatting and laughing, apparently—thank heavens—unaware of anything weird going on between Colin and me. He remarks on something that Sabrina says, and all three women burst out laughing. I have no clue what’s even said. My heart finally stops racing.
I steal a quick glance at Colin. He catches my eye again, and I promptly look away. But I can see in my peripheral vision that he cocks his head to one side and watches me with that lazy, crooked smile.
He is a handsome bastard, tall and broad-shouldered, with bright-blue eyes framed in thick, dark eyelashes. His face has this chiseled-like quality to it. Black hair and eyebrows are a perfect combination with his honey-colored skin. He sports a two-day stubble, carefully groomed into precise lines. There is a small jagged scar on his forehead close to his hairline, and I fleetingly wonder how he got it.
I take a sip of water. My hands are shaking, and I try not to spill. That would be the last straw, so I make an extra effort into preventing such disaster. It feels like a small victory when I manage to set down my glass on the table without creating a pool around it. I think I actually exhale with a sigh of relief. Colin raises one eyebrow at me. He watches my every move. This is getting unbearable. I take a few more mouthfuls of water, and he refills my glass from the colorful ceramic pitcher my parents brought last summer from their vacation in Sicily.
This time he smiles widely and winks at me. My heart does a little flip, and I almost spew the water out. He has a gorgeous smile. I bet he’s one of those guys that women are obsessed with. And I’m sure he knows it. Okay, it’s time to discuss business before my own mind spins out of control. For all I know he’s married—wait, no wedding ring—or has a girlfriend. Or a boyfriend. Although he doesn’t strike me as gay. For heaven’s sake, enough of that, Natalie. What the hell is happening to me?
