"The heart isn’t like the liver. It doesn’t regenerate, no matter how much time passes. Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. I’d left mine with Sebastian when I walked away that day, and I hadn’t seen it in the seven years since.” — Lux Kincaid At eighteen, Lux is forced to make a choice. One that nearly destroys her. She breaks a boy’s heart. She breaks her own, too. Seven years later, Lux never expects to see Sebastian again — especially not when her career as a journalist is hanging by a thread and she’s stumbled onto the story of a lifetime. As she chases down leads and explores the dark underbelly of Manhattan, Lux will put her life on the line. But after crossing paths with a still-unforgiving Sebastian, it’s her heart she’s most worried about. Amidst the blame and the betrayal, the hurt and the heartbreak… can two lost lovers ever find their way back to one another? Lines will be blurred. The past will be unearthed. And Lux will find out that some secrets aren’t meant to be kept…
OMG... this book had me in tears not once but three times!!
Lux Kincaid has never been popular. In fact, she's the total opposite of popular. Her family is poor, her parents are drunks and her sweet twin brother Jamie is suffering from a rare cancer. The one light in her life is her boyfriend Sebastian Covington who seemed to see her when no one else did.
What Lux doesn't know is there are people who don't want them to be together. She's forced to make a decision that crushes both her and Bash. Thinking she will never see him again, she moves her and Jamie away to start a new life. She moves on as best she can, but she never forgets about the one boy she left her heart with.
When she happens to run into him at a photo shoot, her world turns upside down again. She never imagined he would be a photographer, because she refrained from ever looking him up. Bash, on the other hand, has other ideas. He wants her as his personal assistant, and makes things difficult for Lux at the beginning. He's still very angry with her, but being Bash, he can't stay mad at her.
At the same time, Lux discovers that there are girls going missing. Girls that won't be missed by family. Her journalist instincts start kicking in, and it sets her off on one hell of a dangerous adventure. When Bash gets wind of her story and the history behind it, he's bound and determined to help her out with it. The last thing he wants is to lose her again.
Ok, now when I say this book had me in tears... it literally had me in tears. Her brother Jamie, I completely fell in love with. She remences about her time with her twin, and the fun she had with both him and Bash as teenagers. She knows he won't survive this cancer that has plagued him for most of his life, and when he finally comes to the realization, it's heartbreaking. It makes me choke up thinking about it. He loves her, and in the end, all he wants is for her to be happy.
Now... Bash.... he's understandably angry when he first sees her again. Also, he makes it known exactly what he thinks of her, but deep down, he's still the boy she loved desperately. Knowing they were just kids when they broke up, he knows there is more the story of why she left. He's not exactly surprised to find out who was behind it, but he understands why Lux did what she did. But, he's got her back now, and he's not letting her go no matter what.
I so loved this book. Any book that can bring me to tears... OMG!! This is one that I will read again... and it will bring me to tears again.. I'm sure!!
