Now, she must choose between the career she’s always wanted and the love she’s always dreamed.

THE REVIEW

When Paige Donovan was ten years old, she spent a summer in Black River Colorado with her parents.  What she wasn't expecting to meet a young wolf puppy, that she instantly fell in love with.  During that same summer, she sees a young boy.  She never finds out his name, as her mother decides to cut the vacation short.

That summer and that cabin have always been at the back of Paige's mind.  What happened to the wolf pup?  What happened to the boy?

She's overjoyed when she's promoted at her job, but it is short lived when her father passes away suddenly.  Paige is surprised when she finds out that her father left her the cabin.  She had been told by him that he had sold it.  Her mother wants her to sell the place, but Paige is adamant.  She wants something that holds a special memory of her father.

Her world changes when she decides to take a little vacation up to Black River Colorado.  Once there, she sees a gorgeous guy at the local store, who can't seem to take his eyes off of her.  Flustered, she leaves and drives to the cabin.  She hears the wolf howls before going to sleep, and is horrified to see wolf prints on her bedroom floor.

This causes a change of events that not only put her life in danger, but also force her to make some life changing decision.  She has a car accident and when she wakes up, she's in a strange house, and... a big white wolf is laying at her feet. It runs out of the room when she starts screaming, and it is then she is introduced to Quinn Gray.  The person taking care of her.  She finds out that her brother rescued her from the accident and brought her to his family's house to heal.

While she is staying with them, she knows they are hiding something.  Riley Gray, Quinn's twin brother, makes it known that he likes her, and wants her stay.  Paige tells him she can't; she has a life back in New York with a new promotion.  She has obligations back there that can't be forgotten about.  Riley is determined to change her mind, because there is a reason he wants her to stay.

Riley has a secret that he's keeping from Paige, and once it's revealed she's terrified at first, but then realizes she's not in any danger.  She's also asked to make a choice about staying there.  Also, it is either stay or be killed, because no one can know the secret about Riley's family.

I loved this book!  I loved how Riley was with Paige, and also that throughout most of the book he was naked!!!  I had no problem with that at all!!!!  Paige was a little uncomfortable at first, but she didn't seem to mind it either after awhile!  It was because he was so comfortable in his skin that he didn't care about being naked in front of anyone.  He was totally in love with Paige, and made it known he would always be there for her.  Which is something Paige had always wanted.

Excerpt from The Howling Heart by April Bostic:

“Have you ever made love to a human?” I asked timidly. My ears felt hot, and I looked at him through shy eyes. I hoped I wasn't overstepping the boundary of personal information.

He answered quietly. “No.”

His revelation came as a surprise, but I was still curious. “What about a wolf?” I don’t know why I asked. I knew there was no possible way this extremely attractive man was a virgin.

He hesitated this time. Seconds ticked by before he replied, “Pack law states we can only make love after we claim a mate and the leader recognizes our union.”

His indirect answer caught me off-guard, and I couldn't keep the sarcasm from my words. “You’re not one to follow the rules, so I’ll take that as a yes.”

I looked away and lifted my feet out of the water. With my legs bent, I pressed my knees against my chest and wrapped my arms around them. I thought the conversation was over, but Riley was determined to have my attention. His fingers grasped my chin to turn my head toward him.

“That’s probably the only law I haven’t broken.”

Our gazes locked, and he almost stole my breath, again. “Why? I know abstinence can’t be easy for you.”

His voice was almost a whisper. “Not anymore.”

I noticed his green irises had flecks of amber in them—the same color as his wolf eyes. That’s when I realized our heads had moved closer.

Riley’s warm breath caressed my face, and it smelled of hickory and clove. “I’m not interested in any she-wolves in the pack.”
