Oh
yes, Kiya. Make him love you, make him hold you in his highest regard....
When
Naomi’s sisters are snatched up to be taken to be wives of the erratic Pharaoh,
Akhenaten, she knows they won’t survive the palace, so she offers herself in
their place. The fearsome Commander Horemheb sees her courage, and knows she is
exactly what he is looking for…
The
Great Queen Nefertiti despises Naomi instantly, and strips her of her Hebrew
lineage, including her name, which is changed to Kiya. Kiya allies herself with
Horemheb, who pushes her to greatness and encourages her to make the Pharaoh
fall in love with her. When Akhenaten declares Kiya will be the mother of his
heir, Nefertiti, furious with jealousy, schemes to destroy Kiya.
Kiya must play the deadly game carefully. She is
in a silent battle of wills, and a struggle for who will one day inherit the
crown. If
she does bear an heir, she knows she will need to fight to protect him, as well
as herself, from Nefertiti who is out for blood.
1. What is your name?
Naomi, eldest daughter of Jorem of Ephraim, but the Pharaoh changed my name to Kiya.
My sisters and I sew, weave and cook, sometimes we make pottery... but since I joined the royal family I play senet, and garden with Mordad, Gerlind and Abi. I also spend a great deal of time in lessons with Horemheb and so study languages when there's a moment to spare.
I'm married to Pharaoh Akhenaten.
I used to be the primary caregiver for my sisters because my mother died when I was five years old giving birth to my youngest sister. My father relied on me to cook, clean and maintain the home with them. But now I'm a wife of the pharaoh I just need to try to please him and keep one step ahead of people who want me gone.
Oh... I could cause much trouble if anyone finds out about this, but I've fallen for the guard who escorts the wives and concubines to our husband. His name is Malachi, but I cannot tell him how I feel or both of us could be killed.
I don't know. Mordad might say I'm brave and strong, and Horemheb might say I'm useful and clever. But I just want to protect my family.
I've been blessed to be well-educated for a woman, my father made sure of that, but aside from that I don't know what else to say. I believe I am loyal and I try to be honest, but I'm learning to be careful with who I share my loyalty and honesty with.
I am usually a good cook, but in the palace I don't get to cook at all. So I study and garden instead.
10. Do you have any children?
You'll have to read my story to find out.
